The Wilmington Trust/M&T Bank family joins the nation in mourning the loss of the 41st President of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush.

President Bush guided the nation through a period of sweeping global change—and is most notably remembered for bringing a peaceful end to the Cold War, marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was highly regarded, both for the calm, steady hand and civility with which he conducted himself throughout his presidency, as well as the courage he displayed during his military career.

He defined his life with the military acronym CAVU—ceiling and visibility unlimited. As we pay homage to a beloved symbol of a kinder, gentler time, we respectfully say, “Rest in peace, Mr. President, eternally CAVU.”

Today, December 5, has been declared a national day of mourning in President Bush’s honor. Stock and bond markets will be closed and Wilmington Trust will not be conducting any securities trades.

Wilmington Trust is a registered service mark. Wilmington Trust Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of M&T Bank Corporation.
