Our Business Owners Outlook is a quarterly survey that explores business owners’ concerns and outlooks on themes that are most important to them.
- In this issue, “Is Now the Time to Sell?” survey respondents shared their attitudes toward transitioning their business in light of their perceptions of macroeconomic and political conditions.
- The survey found that the majority of business owners are personally unprepared to transition their business, and many say that their business is not ready to be sold.
- This suggests that many business owners consider themselves to be invulnerable to the many risks of not having a transition plan in place, including market volatility, an economic downturn, needing to transition their business earlier than expected, and increased competition for buyers and investors.
In our experience, planning early is planning well. When business owners plan as if they are going to sell the business tomorrow, even if the event is years away, they have a much higher likelihood of a positive outcome.
